The National Science Education Leadership Association (NSELA) presents a Professional Development Institute focused on the best practices in professional development for science education reform.

Leading Professional Development in Science Education

The PDI will consist of six broad strands that all support different aspects of leading professional development in science education. Each strand will involve either one six-hour session (divided into two segments) or two separate three-hour sessions. The sessions are (download long descriptions - pdf):

Building Systems for Quality Teaching and Learning: A Simulation on Designing and Providing Professional Development Programs in Science
THIS SESSION IS FULL

Susan Mundry and Kathy Stiles (WEST ED)
This session will engage participants in an interactive simulation designed to build understanding of effective professional development for science teachers.

Bridging the Learning Gap: Continuous Assessment
Nan Dempsey, Betty Hadden and Beth Weatherly (MATHEMATICS & SCIENCE UNIT, SC DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION)
Join us as we explore the critical components (peer & self-assessment, specific criteria, questioning, feedback) of assessment for student learning.

Preparing Teacher Leaders to Facilitate Professional Learning Communities
Nancy R. Bunt and Gabriela Rose (ALLEGHENY INTERMEDIATE UNIT)
SWPA MSP prepared 600 Teacher Leaders to guide colleagues. Explore lessons learned via LEADS: Learning, Explicitness, Assessment, De-Briefing, and Support.
