The purposes of the organization are:

  • To pursue continuing improvement of science education through leadership on Long Island.
  • To provide leadership and disseminate pertinent information in the fields of science education and science supervision by conducting public meetings, conferences, and workshops.
  • To present, to appropriate agencies, items of concern to science educators.

 

LISTEMELA's Vision:

Our vision for equity includes access to high quality science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education for all students, including the representation of diverse voices in LISTEMELA membership, leadership and participating teachers and student teachers. STEM fields only thrive where diverse questions and perspectives are included. As the National Science Teaching Association so aptly stated, “equity is at the heart of science and teaching, and education is a beacon of light for our students.”

Announcement: Science Education Leaders In Long Island Now Hold Dual Membership With NSELA

Under the agreement, NSELA will maintain the LISTEMELA member database and will promote and manage registration for LISTEMELA events. For an annual membership fee of $60, you receive TWO memberships - LISTEMELA &  NSELA!

As NSELA members, they will receive important NSELA benefits, including a subscription to NSELA’s Science Educator Journal, discounts to NSELA events, access to members-only content on the NSELA Learning Center, and more. See more information here.

To Re-Join LISTEMELA / NSELA, you will do so through the NSELA webpage:

  • To get started, you'll first need to set up your password. Click here to enter your email address associated with your LISTEMELA profile.
  • The system will send you an email to set up your password.
  • Once updated, you can join by logging in here, using your Username - - and new password. While you are logged in, you will be able to update information on your profile (it is searchable to help people find you!)
  • You can also renew by going here and using your username and password to log in.
