Celebrating the Year of Science: Laissez les bons temps rouler!

The officers and members of the Louisiana Science Teachers Association invite our NSELA colleagues to join with thousands of science educators for a celebration of the Year of Science by attending the 2009 NSTA Conference on Science Education in New Orleans. The event is scheduled for March 19-22, 2009

Leading the conference planning team are: Paul Johnson, Local Arrangements Manager; Brenda Nixon, Program Manager; and Jean May-Brett, 2009 Conference Chair.

This being NSELA’s 50th Anniversary our members can relate to the central theme of celebration as science educators gather along the Gulf Coast to enjoy the good music, food and friendship for which the area is known and loved.

Considering lessons learned from our recent experiences and the importance of science in our everyday lives, the 2009 planning committee has selected four strands of special significance for the meeting:

  • Science and the Human Spirit,
  • Research to Practice: The Science Teacher Professional Continuum.
  • Energy and the Environment: The Natural and Human-designed World, and
  • the technology strand co-presented with ISTE: Meeting the Needs of the Digital Student.
The conference will have those wonderful NSTA features...the annual NSELA PDI, outstanding field trips, excellent short courses, hundreds of concurrent sessions, and delightful social events. Come join us as we continue to rebuild and recover from hurricanes Katrina and Rita. We welcome any NSELA member interested in volunteering during the 2009 New Orleans event.
