The qualifications for Director Analytical and Applied Sciences- Gheens Academy are listed as follows: Minimum qualifications: Master’s Degree; Certificate in Administration and/or Supervision; Five (5) years successful experience in teaching and administration; successful leadership experience. Desirable qualifications: Doctorate Degree. Successful leadership experience in directing/leading implementation efforts using nationally recognized inquiry-based mathematics and science curricula in a culturally and economically diverse community. Familiar with current research on teaching and learning; possesses a demonstrated ability to work with teachers to make active-student investigation the core of the curriculum and instruction; experience using alternate assessment. Administers the development, implementation, and evaluation of a successful instructional program in the content areas of science and mathematics, incorporates Science Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) initiatives that promote the integration of technology into district-wide science and mathematics programs, and ensures that the curriculum reflects current research and theory in instruction and that professional development focuses on a process-based approach to science and mathematics. The Program Officer, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (T-STEM) Academies is responsible for the development and support of T-STEM Academies across Texas.
Position priorities
• Implement a school planning process to create and support innovative T-STEM academies as small autonomous schools or school-within-a-school models that can be documented and replicated. Conduct technical assistance with grantee as partner, bringing in consultants for specific expertise as needed. Modifiy existing templates as needed to produce a comprehensive planning and implementation manual for future schools implementing this process.
• Implement a Request for Proposals process to enable the funding and implementation of STEM- themed academies. Identify and prioritize institutions to be invited to compete in a request for proposal process for planning and/or implementation grants. Drive the selection process for grantees.
• Determine how to work with grantees to: help build their capacity; work with them on the full range of issues facing small autonomous schools and schools-within-a-school, including culture building, creating high expectations, teacher professional development, accountability, working within an existing ISD central management system, etc.; connect them to technical assistance providers and best-in-class school operators where appropriate.

WestEd’s Assessment and Standards Development Services (ASDS) Program is seeking an experienced educational assessment associate who can work independently and as part of the ASDS team on a variety of assessment-related projects. This position will coordinate major assessment development activities as well as write and review assessment items and other materials.
Position Description
The Director of Science Development will work directly with ASDS’ Director of Test Development in the development, review and editing of standards, test items and related test materials (e.g., scoring guides, annotated student responses) used in statewide assessments. The Director of Science Development also will oversee the results of curriculum- and assessment-alignment studies performed for districts and states.
Responsibilities
-Coordinate major activities in ongoing assessment projects, focusing on science
-Facilitate test item development and item review meetings

The Department of Elementary and Middle Grades Education at Western Carolina University seeks to fill a tenure track position in elementary and middle grades education with a focus on science education.
WCU is a regional comprehensive university located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina, an hour from Asheville, NC and 2 ½ hours from Atlanta, GA. One of 16 institutions in the University of North Carolina system, WCU enrolls approximately 9,000 students including 1600 graduate students. The Department of Elementary and Middle Grades Education includes 14 full-time faculty members and offers degree programs for undergraduates and graduates, including programs for elementary education, middle grades education, and reading. The department resides in the fully-accredited College of Education and Allied Professions. The EMGE faculty shares a constructivist, holistic view of children’s development and education.
Responsibilities for the position include teaching science methods courses to undergraduates and graduate students in both on-campus and distance education formats. Willingness to teach in interdisciplinary integrated subject areas is also preferred. Other duties are supervising interns, working in partnerships with public schools, engaging in scholarly activity, advising students, and service to WCU. An earned doctorate in elementary or middle grades science education from an accredited institution is required. Also required are 1) a strong background in science; 2) at least three years of public school teaching experience in elementary or middle grades; 3)evidence of scholarly potential; 4)commitment to working as part of a collaborative team; and 5) eligibility for a NC teaching license at the elementary/middle grades level. A knowledge base in issues of diversity, experience with distance education, and the ability to use technology to support learning is also desirable. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience.
