Chapter 1 The Seeds are Planted
At an informal dinner meeting at e the 1955 NSTA Convention in Cincinnati, a group of science supervisors discussed common problems. This took place again in Washington (1956) and again in Cleveland (1957).
Science Supervisors were given permission by NSTA to hold a luncheon one day prior to the NSTA Convention in 1958. Herbert Smith, NSTA President, appointed an Ad Hoc Committee, chaired by Kenneth Vordenberg. The committee was charged with investigating the relationships among supervisors, supervisory activities in science and the NSTA.
This ad hoc committee presented a resolution to the meting of science supervisors on April 1, 1958 in Atlantic City, NJ requesting the formation of a section of the NSTA for science supervisors. The resolution was unanimously adopted and sent to the Board of Directors of the NSTA for approval. Time was also requested for the now traditional supervisors program preceding the 1959 NSTA convention in Kansas City, MO.
In 1960, the newly formed National Science Supervisors Association met in Chicago, IL for another day and a half before the NSTA Convention. The seeds had been planted and had now germinated.
